A Gifted & Talented PE Workshop
Gifted & Talented PE Workshop

Our Network is fortunate to have some excellent facilities in the Upper School, with a newly refurbished sports centre, but how could we stimulate and develop the range of activities for pupils in our primary schools?

The answer was to run a workshop aimed at gifted & talented pupils in years 2 to 4. The workshop was led by Claire Prescott, an Upper School PE teacher who also wears the hat of 'Community Sports Development Officer'.

In December 2005, around 96 primary age pupils came to the Upper School and took part in a range of activities to develop their skills and to broaden their horizons.

The pupils...climbed on the indoor rock wall
                performed a modern dance routine
learned how to perform gymnastic routines on the trampoline
took part in indoor athletics & fitness activities.

The pupils were supported by Upper School students (as part of their A level PE and CSLA courses) but, most important, were watched and encouraged by teachers and teaching assistants from their own schools - and it is those colleagues who we hope gained the most from the experience.

We hope that those teachers and teaching assistants will be able to take back to their schools some ideas to help stimulate and develop PE activities for the benefit of all their pupils.
